Learning Objectives:

  1. Define client outcomes, evidence-based practice, and intervention programming.
  2. Identify the need for evidence-based practice in providing intervention.
  3. Identify the relationship between program design, protocols, assessment and outcome measurement.
  4. Apply the above concepts into your own daily TR program.

 

Norma is currently retired after being at Illinois State University and the University of Illinois from 1984 to 2008. She has written several therapeutic recreation texts including Facilitation of Therapeutic Recreation Services:  An Evidence-Based and Best Practice Approach to Process and Techniques (2011, with Dr. Brad Wardlaw) and Therapeutic Recreation Program Design: Principles and Procedures (5th, 4th, & 3rd editions) with Dr. Carol A. Peterson.   She has also published dozens of refereed articles in Therapeutic Recreation Journal, Annual in Therapeutic Recreation, American Journal of Recreation Therapy, and other journals.  She has presented over 300 research and educational sessions and scores of keynotes at state, national, and international conferences and conventions.  She has been recognized by being inducted into the Academy of Leisure Sciences (NRPA) and the National Academy of Recreation Therapists (NART), and being awarded Distinguished Fellow (ATRA), Presidential Citation  (NTRS), the Charles K. Brightbill Alumnus Award (University of Illinois), President’s Certificate of Recognition (ATRA), and other awards.  Norma received her Ph.D. in Leisure Behavior/Therapeutic Recreation from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1985; she received her masters and bachelors degrees in Recreation and Park Administration/ Therapeutic Recreation from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1979 and 1978, respectively.

Registration Fee:

$85 for the day, $60 for a.m. only, $85 per site for video conferencing (only available for those outside the Metro Vancouver area). 5 spots are reserved for students for $60 for the day, $ 50 for half day, first come first served. Non-member rate is $115 for the day $ 85 for half day. CEU verification will be provided for those requiring it for their CTRS renewal. NCTRC Job Code: PTR
