Session Description:

A focus of the Saskatchewan Health Authority is to keep seniors living stronger and longer at home as independently as possible for as long as possible. Saskatoon has several unique initiatives that deserve to be highlighted in this webinar; they include the Geriatric Evaluation Management day-program at Saskatoon City Hospital, the Seniors First pro?gram housed at Market Mall Healthcare Centre and the development of the regions first community-based Recreation Therapist position. The goal of this webinar is to inform practice by exploring the role Recreation Therapists play in the continuum of care for seniors in Saskatoon.


Learning Objectives:

  1. After this session participants will have a better understanding of best practice in Saskatoon for senior’s care.
  2. After this webinar participants will be able to identify the process for creating a new community-based Recreation Therapist position within a health authority.
  3. After this session participants will be learn how to administer recreation therapy services for seniors in across the continuum of care (i.e. in the hospital, community and care home).

Presenter Bio: 

Mary Dwulit (Due-Lit) graduated in 2017 from Douglas College’s Bachelor’s of Therapeutic Recreation Degree Program. Mary is a CTRS with a passion for promoting community inclusion for clients and advocating for the advancement of the profession. Mary moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in March 2019 where she accepted a full time permanent position as a Recreation Therapist with the Saskatchewan Health Authority. Mary is proud to continue to be a supporting member of the BCTRA.
