This presentation will begin by greetings, acknowledgements, and story-telling to illustrate experiences and then go on to cover the greatest gifts and tools for supporting preparation of journey to the Spirit world and not be afraid to face death.  It was part of our culture to look after our own through life from birth to the time of dying. It has been prayer, song, drumming, special songs and ceremonies through the use of common traditional music instruments and their benefits that support Indigenous people to prepare for their journey.

 

Learning Objectives

After the session participants will be able to:

    1. Will identify two Traditional Indigenous teachings that will lead to building of trust and feeling cultural safety
    2. Will identify the two greatest gifts and tools for supporting preparation of journey to the Spirit world
    3. Will identify three common traditional musical instruments and their benefits in supporting this journey

Bio of Speaker Rosella Kinoshameg

 

I am Odawa/Ojibway from the Wikwemikong Unceded First Nation Territory.  I am a Registered Nurse (1968) with B.Sc.N. (1977) and Honorary Doctorate in Sacred Letters (1996).

I chair the CHPCA Aboriginal Interest Group, was a Board member for Nipissing Serenity Hospice, North Bay, worked on Palliative Care Policies for Wikwemikong, served as lay panel member on Palliative Care Matters, and recently was panel member for RNAO on End of Life Best Practice Guideline.

I have facilitated many workshops and presentations on “Preparing for the Journey”
