The B.C. Therapeutic Recreation Association is pleased to be able to support Therapeutic Recreation Students. BCTRA is offering three grants of up to $400.00 available to student members in support of:

A) writing the NCTRC exam or
B) participating as a presenter (poster/seminar format) in national/international conferences

The BCTRA Education Committee will review Education Bursary applications three times per year. One will be awarded in January, one in May and one in October. Applicants will be chosen using a random lottery process.

Criteria for Application

  • Student Member of BCTRA in good standing
  • Registered full-time in a Therapeutic Recreation specific degree program
  • Must show proof of passing the exam and proof of payment if asking for funding for NCTRC exam
  • Must show proof of receipt, attendance and submit title and learning objectives of session if presenting at a national/international conference
  • Must not have received funding from BCTRA in the past 3 years
  • Fully complete application form (incomplete applications will not be considered)
  • Permission to broadcast name (s of the successful applicant(s)

Application Procedure

A) Exam:

  1. Student will write NCTRC exam and pass
  2. Please complete the application form and submit proof of CTRS certification, and full time studies. (The Education Application Form is located on the BCTRA website under Members Documents; you will need to sign in to locate the form)

B) Conference

  1. Student will present at conference
  2. Student will collect receipt, show some form of attendance and supply a detailed description of presentation (includes title, learning objectives and purpose)
  3. Complete application online The Education Application Form is located on the BCTRA website under Members Documents; you will need to sign in to locate the form.

Deadline for Applications:

October 1st

  • For courses/workshops/conferences/exams taken May, June, July and August of that calendar year.
  • For courses/workshop/conferences/exams that members and students would like to register for that they would attend in November/December/January and February. calendar year.

January 1st

  • For courses/workshops/conferences/exams take September, October, November and December of the previous year.
  • For courses/workshop/conferences/exams that members and students would like to register for that they would attend in March/April/May and June of the current calendar year.

May 1st

  • For courses/workshops/conferences/exams taken January, February, March and April of that calendar year.
  • For courses/workshop/conferences/exams that members and students would like to register for that they would attend in July/August/September and October of the current calendar year.
