Seeking Nominations for the Ingrid Parsons Award

In September 1994, the Professional Development and Education Committee of the British Columbia Therapeutic Recreation Association (BCTRA) initiated the distinguished Professional Award to recognize the contributions of an outstanding BCTRA member. In 1996 the award was renamed the Ingrid Parsons Professional Recognition Award, a fitting tribute to a fine professional woman whose call to the field was filled with energy, drive and commitment. Ingrid’s example to members is one not to be forgotten. This award is intended to acknowledge such contributions as:

  • a significant contribution in the field of therapeutic recreation
  • serving in a key leadership position
  • a contribution for a particular initiative
  • a series of contributions over an extended period

It is intended that the contributions made by the individual have supported therapeutic recreation. The contribution does not have to be in the year previous to the award date.

Nominations should include: a summary of the contributions this individual has made to the field and a letter indicating why this person should be granted the award. It should be noted that the award will be granted on the merit of the contribution(s) rather than as a recognition for long term service. Nomination deadline is October 11th, 2019.

Previous Winners Include: Sandi Chapman, Tricia Rachfall, Tara Strachan, Johanne Hemond, Amber Pelletier, Brenda Kinch, John Varley, Sheila Kennedy, Serena Frew, Lisa Hansen, Helene Driscoll, Rosemary Dunne, Jo-Anne Harrison, Jane Peterson, Joan Surinak, Denese Alexander, Marni Macdonald,  and Angela Dawson.
