In 1996 the world’s greatest athletes will come to the United States twice—once for the Olympic Games and once for the Paralympic Games. The 1996 Summer Paralympic Games will be the first ever to be held in conjunction with the Olympic Games in the United States. In recognition and celebration of this extraordinary occasion, this issue of the Therapeutic Recreation Journal is devoted to the topic of “Sport and Disability Across the Lifespan.” In the following paper, the Guest Editors provide an expanded introduction to the Special Issue, and to the general topic of sport and disability across the lifespan.
