Cedars Assisted Living at Hopehill Society (Cedars) is a not-for-profit charitable organization that provides housing and care for older adults in Vancouver. Cedars operates in cooperation with Hopehill. Our mission is to be a caring community that provides affordable housing and assisted living for maturing adults. We strive to build a safe healthy neighbourhood for all our residents to call home.

JOB SUMMARY

Hopehill is looking for a recreation coordinator on a permanent basis (working 30-37.5hrs/week). Reporting to the General Manager, the Recreation Coordinator provides recreation and activity programs for residents. The Recreation Coordinator will work closely with the Hopehill Wellness Team. They will maintain the highest quality of customer service at all times, and treat stakeholders with kindness, patience and respect. They will carry out their duties in accordance with the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada (“CBWC”) Statement of Faith and CBWC Cultural Statement.

The Recreation Coordinator will perform the following duties, functions and/or activities:

Plan, organize and evaluate activities to meet residents’ activation, life skills, recreational and social needs to promote their independence, and quality of life.
Collaborate with the Hopehill Wellness Team to plan and organize community events and volunteers.
Develop and maintain a monthly activities calendar, and teach the techniques of related activities to activity workers.
Evaluate programs and creates goals for improvement.
Host the resident forum meetings.
Evaluate, monitor and document individual resident activity/social needs and reports observations to nursing staff as required.
Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings.
Identify and make recommendations regarding community and facility resources.
Foster a homelike environment that celebrates the diversity of cultures.
Monitor program expenditures and provides input into program budget: oversees inventory of equipment, tools and materials and make recommendations for purchases.
Complete other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

Graduation from a recognized Therapeutic Recreation program (preferable 4-year degree) plus a minimum of 2 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Experience working with seniors
First Aid/CPR Certification, Food Safe level 1
Successfully pass a vulnerable sector records check
Unrestricted Class IV Driver’s License is an asset
Skills

Strong customer service orientation, with ability to communicate both verbally and in writing
Collaborative – demonstrated team player
Adaptable – able to work in diverse situations and teams
Competent computer skills
Ability to deal with changing priorities and deadlines
Physical ability to carry out the duties
Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed
Ability to speak Mandarin/Cantonese is an asset
