Day Program Manager (Temporary)

Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Day Program, the Day Program Manager is responsible for supervising all aspects of the Day Program for Older Adults, including daily operations, person-centred therapeutic services, recreation programs, team of recreation facilitators, care aides and cooks, and other positions as required to ensure effective operations. The Day Program Manager works in collaboration with the Director of Day Program to meet the goals & objectives of the Society in alignment with the vision, mission, values and strategic direction.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Administration
• Participates in the development and implementation of the strategic plan for the Day Program
• Collaborates with the Director of Day Program in the development of policies & procedures
• Responsible for ensuring policies & procedures are followed
• Completes and submits reports to the Director of Day Program
• Attends required meetings
• Leads site team meetings
• Co-leads the Interdisciplinary Team Conferences with the LPN
• Co-leads admission intakes with the LPN
• Develops monthly therapeutic recreation program calendar
• Maintains program budget and completes expense records
• Ensures the ongoing maintenance of all recreation equipment and orders supplies
• Reports to Director of Day Program all general building maintenance needs
• Establishes and maintains networks with organizations and advocates
• Responds and resolves participant and/or caregiver matters

Human Resources
• Participates in the recruitment, selection and termination of staff members
• Provides orientation and training of new hires
• Conducts probationary reviews and performs annual self assessments
• Participates in the approval process of annual vacations and LOA requests
• Identifies education needs
• Coordinates student placement programs and completes any documentation of such programs
• Coordinates work assignments
• Provides leadership, guidance, motivation and support to their team
• Responds and resolves conflict resolution situations

Therapeutic Recreation Coordination
• Assesses participants to determine their needs, interests and abilities within the day program and community
• Analyzes and interprets results from assessments
• Identifies goals and treatment plans with the participant. Communicates same to members of the interdisciplinary team
• Leads the team through the development and coordination of therapeutic recreation interventions that meet the emotional, cognitive, physical, social and spiritual needs and interests of the participants
• Develops therapeutic recreation program protocols
• Implements one to one and group therapeutic interventions
• Ensures programs are meaningful, individualized and appropriate for participants, promoting choice, enhancing quality of life providing dignity and respect at all times to all participants
• Evaluates intervention plans by analyzing the effectiveness of the program by receiving feedback from all involved. Revises interventions plans and programs as needed
• Completes documentation in accordance with the organizations standards
• Develops plans and strategies to mitigate risk and eliminate barriers to quality programming
• Maintains and updates own clinical knowledge within area of practice

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation from an approved accredited academic institution, and preference to those certified by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC)
• Three years of related experience
• Current basic CPR certification
• Food Safety certification
• Current class 5 BC drivers license
