Canucks Autism Network – Support Worker

Position Purpose
To support CAN program participants to be as successful as possible in the program. This includes support with appropriate behavior, social interaction and/or communication. Work in collaboration with other team members, under the direction of the Coach and Onsite Supervisor.

Key Functions
* Provide individualized support to program participants and promote active engagement and learning
* Build a relationship and collaborate with parents/guardians regarding participant support needs and advancements
* Follow lesson plans delivered by the Coach and adapt to participant(s) needs as required
* Facilitate peer to peer interaction and socialization amongst program participants
* Encourage participants to independently partake in activities
* Collaborate with Coach and other Support Workers to help the group be as successful as possible
* Help engage and mentor volunteers in participant support as required
* Assist the Coach and/or other Support Workers as requested
* Assist Onsite Supervisor in providing personal care as needed

Qualifications & Experience
* Must be 18 years of age or over
* Previous experience working with individuals with autism or other diverse needs
* Fun and engaging with an ability to build rapport with ease
* Experience in the sports program a strong asset, but not required. If interested in swim and skate, ability to support beginner skaters on the ice and beginner swimmers in all depths of the pool is required.
* Emergency First Aid Certification a strong asset
* Obtain a clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search
