Responding to Trauma Exposure & Workplace Distress in Recreation Service Settings
April 20th, 2017
12:00pm to 1:00pm
Session Description: Professionals and volunteers in recreation therapy settings who work with people who have experienced major life stressors will, sooner or later, encounter clients who have experienced post traumatic growth. What may be less clear is how professional helpers find their way through distress, trauma exposure and loss toward new found life and work appreciation, compassion, self-affirmation and resiliency. This workshop addresses this gap through concrete examples and exercises and is intended for participants to take away:
Learning Objectives:
- To recognize your current response to workplace distress and trauma exposure;
- To gain a greater understanding of post traumatic growth and how to assess your current capacity for this growth;
- To gain great understanding of ways to activate your resiliency and promote intentional personal and professional changes in the aftermath of distressing events.
