In May 2023 and 2024, students from Saskatchewan Polytechnic and College of the Rockies applied their knowledge and skills in Kenya. The program combined international study abroad with interprofessional collaboration, providing comprehensive health services to Kenyan communities in partnership with students from Dedan Kimathi University in Nyeri, Kenya.

To prepare, the students worked for four months prior to their departure, focusing on understanding the community and needs and planning the services they would provide. In 2023, they delivered health services to school children, visited a Teen Rescue Centre, toured a crisis nursery and public hospital, and organized a community Health Week event. In 2024, their efforts expanded to include primary schools, churches, a kids rescue centre, orphanages, a public hospital and another community Health Week event. The presenters are pleased to share their experiences and future opportunities involving the profession of Therapeutic Recreation.
